Bollywood actor Aamir Khan has briefed a panel of MPs about alleged malpractices in the medical profession.

A recent episode of his popular TV chat show Satyamev Jayate (The Truth Alone Prevails) had patients alleging overpricing of life-saving drugs and doctors writing wrong prescriptions.

The MPs' panel had asked the actor to share his findings with them.

Khan, 47, earlier refused to apologise to the Indian Medical Association which said the show had defamed them.

"If the medical profession has been insulted and defamed, it is probably by those who are indulging in unethical practices," he had said.

Patients from across India accused medical professionals of reducing their job into "a money-minting business" on the show.

Satyamev Jayate is shown on Sunday mornings on India's state-run Doordarshan network and has discussed social issues like female foeticide and child sex abuse.

The shows have been watched by millions of viewers and won all-round praise for raising issues not discussed widely in the mainstream Indian media.

The programme, made in Hindi, is also dubbed in regional languages, including Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada.
